paradise getaway...

[apparently this has become my travel blog, since i never manage to blog while at home... oh well, that's entertaining at least]

i have now been enjoying the southern end of the thai island of phuket for 4 days. it is the beginning of rainy season, so a bit humid and occasionally overcast, but beautiful and calm. lovely to be away from the chaos of the city. mostly my days have consisted of coffee-beach-eat-nap-beach-yummy fruit shakes-beach-sleep-repeat. hard to beat.
i haven't yet found my camera-computer cord, but if/when i do, i'll post up some pics.

nai han beach is a few minutes away, and is amazing due to the presence of a buddhist temple that keeps away hotels and other tourism and development. sadly the rest of phuket has caught the development boom bug... my friend tami's sister (my hosts here on the island) have lived here for 4 years and have described a stark contrast of buildings, roads, etc, in that relatively short time.

yesterday we saw the police with a group of vehicles packed full of people. apparently the burmese/thailand immigration & deportation issue is frighteningly parallel to the mexican/u.s. one, and seen here frequently. sad situation.

the rainstorm is almost over so it's time to head back out to the beauty. one more week here... will post up some more soon.

Crazy that it says "Watershed - down the river"... While you had been in Thailand for four days, I had been on the Verde River for four days. It was on day four that I contracted some sort of intestinal emergency which had me pulling the boat over every hour or so to squat in the bushes and pass out on the beach. I shoulda just said "phucket."
